Bye Week Press ConferenceIn a press conference at wildcard weekend, Cal Head Coach Benjamin Day was more than satisfied with his team's 15-1 record in their Inaugural Season.
He especially thanked Defensive Coordinator Eric Allison for his great work:
"During the regular season we were the best defense on points, against the passing and in overall yards. I think I can say Eric and his staff did a fantastic job."Also for Offensive Coordinator David Sampson and his staff he had words of praise:
"Our rookie quarterback Blake Bortl ..er.. Johnathan Haney performed better than we expected before the season. I think David and Quarterback Coach Robert Capps had a big part in that he was elected as offensive rookie of the year in the NCAA. And that we had the best rushing offense of the league helped a lot, too. Therefore I cannot enough express my respect for the tremendous work of our coaches."In addition to that, Runningback Marvin Thompson and Fullback Bart Reily, who joined the team in week three after a trade with Nebraska, were honored as All Pro. And moreover Rookie LT Jeffery Thomas earned a Pro Bowl nomination.
